      Dengue vaccination

      The vaccine Qdenga® reduces the risk of a severe dengue infection. This vaccine may be administered to children from the age of 4 years. It is a live attenuated vaccine and therefore should not be used in certain immune disorders, during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

      Dengvaxia® is not available in Belgium and is not recommended for travellers.

      When is vaccination recommended?

      Travellers who have already had dengue at least six months earlier and

      • are staying in a high-risk area for a long time (> 4 weeks) or travelling frequently through a high-risk area for dengue
      • can receive two doses before departure

      Vaccination schedule Qdenga®

      • The schedule consists of two doses at a 3-month interval.
      • The duration of protection has not yet been determined.
